Lowell
is a city steeped deep with history. The city has been home for many incredible people. The list of the creative Lowell residents who
have made history and/or became famous is quite long. This site focuses on the
living artists and their art, as individuals and as a diverse group, as it is their
creative energy that continues to activate and drive the vibrant soul of the arts community in
Lowell, Massachusetts. What undiscovered residents will join the ranks of Jack Kerouac, Betty Davis, and James McNeil Whistler? Some are getting noticed and are already on their way...Jerry Beck, Bob Martin, Frank Morey and Melvern Taylor, to only name a few..
I
am a relatively new transplant to the city, having married a Lowell native in
1996. Her family's pride in Lowell quickly spread through my veins as
well, as I've come to know some wonderful people amidst the diverse communities and
cultures of the city. While much stays the same, I have also seen vast cycles of change in the past ten
years. While the pendulum of "progress" swings back occasionally, most of the momentum has been forward, and the creative environment continues to grow.
What does "Art is the Handmaid of Human Good" mean? The closest I can translate it to is "Art and Humanity go hand in hand".
All
artists have their struggles, internally with their art, and externally in
the quest to get their art noticed and appreciated. Hopefully, the struggle can result
in a connection with the viewer, perhaps ending in a sale or commission to help keep the seemingly endless bills at bay.
Ultimately, every artist wants to find a good home for their art. Please
feel free to contact any of the artists on this site with questions, comments or
encouraging words. Sales are welcome and your encouragement
helps to feed our souls.
